The tradition of the summer resort on the Ritten goes back centuries. As far back as 1576, wealthy families from Bozen in particular would move up to the Ritten punctually on 29 June and stay there for a period of 72 days.

No need for a car to reach a new walking destination each day. The location of the Zum Zirm mountain hotel is the starting point for numerous hikes. A modern cabin lift just a few metres from the hotel whisks you in just a few minutes up to the Schwarzseespitze (2,070 m).

The Zum Zirm mountain hotel is a member of the Rittner walkers’ inns. These have offers of special interest to hikers.

The inclusive offer includes:

• Two guided walks per week
• Possibility of drying walking boots; shoe cleaning facilities
• Free equipment rental (rucksacks – walking sticks – rain gear – water bottles)
• Our information point offers:
 Walking guides – nature guides – cultural guides – collections of legends
• At least 10 prepared hiking suggestions
• Weekly programme with all activities organised by the hotel or on the Ritten

The Ritten has 350 km of marked hiking trails to tempt you. The Rittner high plateau is just as suited to families with small children as for keen climbers. The network of trails ranges from easy paths through vineyards and flowering meadows up to the Alpine pastures at 2,200 m.

This new form of exercise, “walking with sticks”, is an ideal way to harmonise body, mind and soul.
Special Nordic walking courses are offered by the Ritten Nordic Walking school.
